The National Museum of Denmark is a museum of the rank and order of the British Museum, seeing a nation in world context. It celebrated the 200 years anniversary in 2007, tracing its roots back to C.J. Thomsen's famous collection on Danish prehistory - the Stone, the Bronze, and the Iron Age, as they were coined: A chronological and cultural model which carried prehistory everywhere into the age of science. T. B. Jakobsen traces this development in great detail and with a high degree of accuracy until 1848, at the dawn of democracy. No other main European museum is documented to such degree.
