A Companion to American Agricultural History

In 1919, the Agricultural History Society organized to pursue the economic, social, and political history of the field. Since that time, it has expanded to include other essential topics such as food ways, environmental affairs, and cultural history. It also has become interdisciplinary. Agricultural history, however, alwayshas been an integral part of American history. Indeed, no one can be knowledgeable about American history unless he or she has a solid understanding of agricultural history and can integrate that knowledge with what they know about other aspects of the American experience. 
The Blackwell Companion to American Agricultural History consists of roughly thirty-three original essays on critical themes and topics in American agricultural history. The essays also will note areas for further research. In the end, the whole should be more than the sum of its parts.
