Risk identification and analysis tools, specifically Hazard Identification, Consequence Analysis, Risk Matrices, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA), have been described in previous CCPS books. Sophisticated tools for making choices between risk reduction alternatives were described in the 1995 Risk Decisions book. This book discusses how frame a problem, identify alternatives, and evaluate the alternatives using risk analysis tools. It also provides guidance on selecting the appropriate resources and tools for these steps that are commensurate with the complexity of the problem at hand. It then describes how to choose an alternative and applies the risk decision process and tools to several risk problems described in the open literature.
