Quora estimates there are at least 10 million NGOS (nonprofits) in the world. Each of these has a board of individuals doing their best to govern well and wisely.
While there is no single model of governance to emulate there are universal principals and best practices for boards everywhere, this book will test for a universal set of basic responsibilities and a body of universal best practices using criteria established by BoardSource using knowledge gathered from surveys conducted across a number of INGOs and select other kinds of NGOs.
Global Best Practices For NGO Boards will present case studies from different regions/countries that illustrate best practice (i.e., consent agendas, executive sessions) and also identify and introduce governance trends and innovations from different countries that may have global implications, and discuss significant differences in NGO governance (i.e., ethics, defining conflict of interest, board-staff roles, compensation of board members).
