Nearly 3.3 million students are expected to graduate from high school this year, and most of them will head straight to college. Sadly, less than 30 percent of those students are expected to complete a two-year degree within four years and less than 60 percent will earn their bachelor’s degree within six. Of those who do succeed in completing their degrees, many fail to secure employment in their chosen field, or they arrive in the workplace unprepared or with unrealistic expectations of what it will take to succeed. Drawing on the author’s work with millions of teenagers and college students around the globe, as well as the schools and families who support them, this book takes a fresh look at the entire process, from grade school through college and beyond, offering insight on practical things schools and families can do to prepare students for the life they want.
The book explains how parents, guidance counselors, and administrators can help students discover their strengths and their passions, build solid academic and career plans, find the best-fit institution to help them achieve their academic and life goals, and then sticking with them until they reach those goals.
