The book begins with an introduction to explain to the user, parents/guardians and students alike, how it works and why. Each chapter begins with a case study of the author's former student. Character, interests, grades, test scores, strengths and challenges will all be given, along with where she/he applied to university. An overview of the chapter and therefore that time period in the process is given.
In general, each chapter will cover:
1. Milestones that must be completed during said time period (this is not just a checklist). Rationale for “why” the Milestone is given and why it must be completed.
2. Pop-outs with insider information will be included in each chapter to add insight and educate, to give perspective and sometimes humor, and to bring breadth and depth to this process.
3. Resources that the student/family can and should use will be advised in each chapter. This will include guidebooks, websites, etc. that are considered thorough, experienced and useful.
4. Each chapter will ask the student and family to complete relevant work in the Handbook, found in the book itself. The Handbook has been tried and tested with the author’s clients.
