This book presents the essentials of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in a clear and progressive manner - using a textbook and integrated interactive computer modules. Following initial chapters about pharmacokinetic and -dynamic (PK and PD) basics, chapters discuss the evaluation of drug response in-vivo and present a number of integrated PK and PD models, The second edition updates key elements of the existing textbook are updated to reflect the current state of knowledge in rapidly changing and evolving areas. In addition, several chapters are added (for example, on pharmacogenetics) and others expanded to include topics (like in vitro-in vivo correlations and new types of models) that that are becoming increasingly important in the discipline. A companion website contains interactive versions of all the PK and PD models, to allow students to experiment and observe the characteristics of the different models in a dynamic way. These interactive models also demonstrate the importance and influence of the different model parameters. Each chapter contains exercises based on the interactive models, which makes the book ideal for self-study.
