This book is conceived in part as the companion text to Dr Brady’s and Amal Mattu’s ECGs for the Emergency Physician 1 and ECGs for the Emergency Physician 2.
These books, which are in essence ECG atlases for the acute care provider, have sold extremely well for us. (See “Related Titles” below for sales data). As atlases, these books purposefully exclude in-depth clinical content. Since their publication, Dr Brady has received many requests from physician educators expressing a need for materials that explain the medicine behind the ECG. This book is being written to fulfill that need.
This book will address ECG interpretation in basic and advanced areas of education. Furthermore, it will include a focus and perspective from each of the three primary areas of medical care: acute care (office and hospital ward), critical care (ICU, OR, PACU, etc), and emergency care (emergency department, EMS, etc). It can be used in conjunction with ECGs for the Emergency Physician I & II (Mattu and Brady) or as a stand-alone text. Indeed Dr Brady wishes to cross-reference the three books so that Emergency Physician I & II will serve readers of this new text as collections of ECGs for further learning/self-assessment.
The book will include sections on all primary ECG entities (the “medicine”) as well as sections addressing application, devices, and strategies of use (systems and operation). Regarding the medical content (“the medicine”) of the book, we will address acute coronary syndromes and all related issues, other diseases of the myocardium, morphologic syndromes, toxicology, and pediatrics; dysrhythmias will also be covered in detail. The book will contain any and all ECG information for the clinician in the acute, critical, and emergency care arenas.
