The purpose of this book is to address the theory, analysis and design of CMOS RFIC transmitters from low RF to high RF ranges including millimeter-wave frequencies for wireless communication and sensing systems including radars. The book begins with the fundamentals of CMOS RFIC design, analysis, simulation, layout, fabrication and test, paving the way for the design of CMOS RFIC transmitters and their components. The fundamentals and models of CMOS and BiCMOS transistors, which are essential for the design of CMOS RFIC transmitters and their components, are discussed in detail. Transmitter architectures for both single- and multi-band systems are examined. The book discusses in detail the design of CMOS RFIC transmitter components including switches, power amplifiers, pulse generators, mixers, and power combiners. The design of multiband power amplifiers which departs from the conventional single-band power amplifier design is particularly addressed. The design of CMOS Transmit/Receive (T/R) modules is also included. Various design examples of CMOS RFIC transmitters and their components are presented in detail including design, simulation, layout and test. These examples not only enhance the understanding of CMOS RFIC transmitters and their constituent components for design engineers, but also demonstrate complete design procedures for them which are useful for design purposes.
