  • Description
The second edition of “Environmental Soil and Water Chemistry” covers both the principles and applications of soil and water chemistry by addressing the interactions between soil and water at the molecular and microscopic levels and ecosystem scale. The proposed volume includes water chemistry and mineral solubility, soil components (minerals, organic matter, organo-mineral complexes) and their surface properties and behavior, abiotic catalysis, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics, soil biophysico-chemical processes, the control of environmental pollution, colloid-mediated transported processes, risk assessment of soil and water quality, and restoration technologies.

In the second edition, the advances in the field since the first edition will be included.  The importance of biophysico-chemical interfacial reactions in understanding the fundamentals of the processes in soil and water and its impacts on the restoration of ecosystem health will be addressed.  Some sections will be reorganized to improve the focus and systematization of the presentation.  The new book will adopt the physico-chemical symbols, terminology, and units stipulated in the most recent publication of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.  The section of Problems and Questions in each chapter will be revised to help students better understand the subject matter and to stimulate creative thinking.
